Hatcher: This summer, tnAchieves is offering the Summer Bridge Program at all 13 community colleges. This is the third year we have been able to offer this program, so you may have heard of it before. If you have not, this program is a FREE 3-week academic boot camp designed to assist students in testing out of learning support classes they otherwise would be required to take their first semester of college. Students will take classes in reading, writing and math, and will have a lunch and learn session each day to provide information on what it means to be a successful college student. On the final day of the program, students will complete a placement test. Any student requiring remedial courses is eligible to apply. Hatcher: Congressman Diane Black is pleased to announce that she is now accepting applications for nominations to the Military Service Academies for the class of 2021. Nominations are required for the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a nomination. Any upcoming seniors that are interested in applying for a service academy may now log on to Congressman Black’s website at www.black.house.net → Serving You → Military Academy Nomination and fill out an application. Please encourage your students to read the FAQ’s before submitting the application to Congressman Black’s academy coordinator. As soon as an application is received the student will receive additional email information regarding the nomination process.

Dr. Joann Shriner: Any student interested in Summer School please come by Dr. Shriner’s 2nd Floor VITAL Lab (Room 220) to pick up an informational flyer. Dates, times, costs and requirements are included. See Dr. Shriner (Room 220) or your counselor if you have questions.  You may also email her at shrinerj@pcsstn.com.

Haven Paul: If any student has medication that has been checked into and kept in the clinic, please be advised that a parent must come on or before May 23rd at 10:00am to pick the medication up. No prescription or over the counter meds are to be left at CHS over the summer. If no one comes to pick up the medication, it will be discarded of after 10:00a on May 23rd. NO MEDS WILL BE RELEASED TO STUDENTS- ONLY PARENTS/GUARDIANS. Thank you!

Merry Flatt: Auditions for Dance IV for the 2017-2018 school year will be held Tuesday, May 16th from 3-4:30 in the upper east gym. You must be a rising senior OR have completed Dance I, II, and III. If you have questions or cannot attend that day, please see Mrs. Flatt as soon as possible.

Nadine Jones: “The International Club is hosting a Malawi Book Drive. Please donate any new or used books for 4th -8th grade reading levels to help St. Mary’s Secondary School for Girls located in Zomba, Malawi read! Donations to pay for the shipping are also needed. Look for the Malawi Book Drive booth during lunch to donate books or change to help fight illiteracy in Malawi, Africa. In Malawi, 34% of the people are literate.”

Dr. Wright: Attention LEAPs/21st CCLC program students: Please complete the online student survey sent to your school e-mail account by 5/17/17. Also, please return the paper parent survey sent to you through your 1st block/period teacher last week. All parent surveys are to be returned to Mrs. Sheila in the main office or Dr. Wright in room #335 by Wednesday, 5/17/17 as well. Thank you for your time and prompt attention to this matter as we have to include this data in end of the year reports for the program.

Jennifer Williams: All students planning to take AP chemistry or AP physics next fall need to see Ms. Williams in room 327 for summer assignments thank you.

Hatcher: The Cybersecurity Education, Research and Outreach Center (CEROC) at Tennessee Tech University is pleased to announce our upcoming GenCyber camp being held on the Tennessee Tech campus July 10 – 15, 2017. This non-residential camp will provide students, teachers, and guidance/career counselors the opportunity to gain a fuller understanding of cybersecurity issues and awareness techniques while working with current technology which can be used in their classrooms. Melton: Attention Integrated Math Honors students, your summer assignments are now on Cookeville Cavs website under information/summer assignments. If you need a hard copy, please see your teacher or Mr. Melton.

Julie Benjamin: Congratulations to all who won in last week’s Student Congress elections and thank you to everyone who took the time to run. This school is fortunate to have so many willing to dedicate their time and energy to make it a better place and for that we should be proud. We will be having our first meeting of the 2017-2018 congress this Wednesday, May 17th, the first half of lunch in room 247. All newly elected members please come with ideas for next year. Important decisions will be made at this meeting!

Molly Risley: Attention all IB Theory of Knowledge 1 students (rising juniors): Please see Ms. Risley in room 227 before summer to pick up the summer reading. Also, the AP Language and Composition summer assignment will be posted on cookevillecavs.com, but if you have questions, feel free to come by 227 and see Ms. Risley. All TOK 2 students need to pick up their copies of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks for summer reading in 227.
